Tell Governor Schwarzenegger to sign Ten Important Bills!
Dear FCL Supporter,
The Legislature adjourned at 3:30 AM this morning without passing redistricting or major health care reforms. The extended budget impasse all but ensured that major proposals would not make it through both houses before adjournment, but it didn't stop legislators from trying to enact a midnight hour pay raise for prison guards that was supported by 29 of 40 Senators. Negotiations between the prison guards union and the state have broken down, and so the union sought to obtain via the legislative process what it has been unable to achieve through collective bargaining. Fortunately, the clock ran out, but it's easy to understand why several media pundits have labeled the first year of the session a "dud."
As disappointing as the first year of this legislative session was, there are some significant pieces of legislation on the governor's desk that could make a difference. FCL would like to enlist your help to lobby the governor to persuade him to make them become law.
Take Action Now!
A brief description of each bill is included below, along with a link to FCL's letter to Governor Schwarzenegger which can be used to draft your own letter or to use as talking points if you prefer to phone the governor (personal letters are preferred).
