Military Recruiting - Privacy Bill Advances!
Dear FCL Supporter,
Today, AB 2994 (Sally Lieber, D., Mountain View) passed the Senate Education Committee by a vote of 6-2.
AB 2994 puts a process in place which notifies parents and students of their right to opt out from having students contact information made available to military recruiters and allows the Department of Defense to administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test (ASVAB) only on the condition that test results and personal information is not made available to recruiters.
We are still awaiting word whether the bill will be double-referred to Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, or if it will go straight the Senate Floor, in which case we will be asking you to lobby your State Senator.
Many thanks to those of you who wrote letters and made phone calls to Members of the Senate Education Committee!
Sincerely yours,
Jim Lindburg
