The Friends Committee on Legislation Education Fund is a non-profit lobbying organization (established in 1984) whose mission is to educate state lawmakers and the public about peace and justice and the worth of every individual. The FCL Education Fund seeks to improve public understanding of the legislative process and of current issues before the state legislature through publication of pamphlets and fact sheets, and through public presentations.
The Education Fund's part-time staff in Sacramento, speaks to student groups studying the legislative process, mentors other non-profit public interest groups working for social justice, orients student interns, supervises research, and oversees the publication of booklets and pamphlets.
The FCL Education Fund recognizes that newly-formed groups of citizens often need to refresh their knowledge about state goverment and its operations to know how they can bring their own experience to bear on current issues. The constant change in public interest groups at work in the Capitol can be confusing, especially since many groups must focus on only a few issues. Empowering grass-roots organizations and helping them find a sense of shared purpose with existing organizations can enable all public interest organizations in Sacramento to work more effectively.
The FCL Education Fund's work is based on the Quaker belief that there is that of God in every person, that each person is endowed with worth and dignity and that the social, economic and political aspects of life should be conducted with utmost concern for the individual.
