H-3
The Friends Committee on Legislation believes that effective
family planning begins with good sex education.
This education should include information about physiology,
varieties of sexual behavior, consistently safe sex practice,
contraception, and sexually transmitted infections. Equally important, education for sexual responsibility, including concern
for partners and for children who may be conceived, should be
available to every person in our society.
Access to contraception should be generally available.
It is preferable to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. For
women with unwanted pregnancies, counseling and information about
adoption and abortion should be provided. We see abortion as the
least desirable form of birth control, but we affirm the right of
women to make this choice. Women whose unborn are diagnosed with
serious genetic problems should have access to appropriate
genetic counseling. Necessary finances should be available to
women to carry out their choices.
